Dr. Nazem Bassil

Geriatrician and Palliative Care specialist

Dr. Nazem Bassil is a Lebanese Medical Doctor specialized in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Geriatric Psychiatry, and Palliative Care. He graduated with an MD degree from the Lebanese University in 2002 and completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Balamand and in Family Medicine at the American University of Beirut.

Dr. Bassil subsequently completed his fellowships in Geriatric Medicine and Geriatric Psychiatry at Saint Louis University in the USA and obtained a diploma in Palliative Care and Pain Management from the German-Jordanian University, with training at CHU de Toulouse in France in 2010.

He joined the University of Balamand/St. George Hospital University Medical Center in Beirut as an Assistant Professor of Medicine from 2011 until 2016, and later served as an Associate Professor of Medicine from 2016 until 2021. He has been president of the Lebanese Geriatric Society since 2017 and is the founder, president, and medical director of the NGO “SAWA for Palliative Care.”

Dr. Bassil currently serves as a Clinical Associate Professor at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) and is the Associate Program Director for the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program at AUBMC. He has many international publications in geriatrics and Alzheimer’s disease. His research interests include delirium, Alzheimer’s disease, end-of-life care, and psychiatric problems in the elderly.
